one of the gadgets i currently have is an aging dell axim 51v pda.
I dropped this thing over a dozen times and it is still fully functional.

one of the first drops was from my desk to a fairly hard surface at work from about 3-4 feet while it was playing mp3's. i dropped it twice this way. it developed a faint line on the screen but it went away in a few weeks.

then i dropped it from about 3-4 feet to the dirt when it was in a silicone sleeve. i think that is when it started developing a problem where the extended battery cover would not stay on properly and it keep shutting off every now and then saying the battery cover has been opened.- had to put some tape on it to stop it from getting loose

The most heart wrenching drop was about a 3feet drop to the hard floor as i was putting it in my pocket i missed my pocket--it fell flat on its face(with no case-not even silicone sleeve) the stylus popped out and it restarted but other than a few minor scratches to the metal finish it was fine.

after that then i dropped it to the pavement in the dell provided slip case when it was in my hand. still fully functional at this point.

the latest drop was like 1 or 2 moths ago when it was in its slip case i dropped it to the pavement again and it developed a dent in the paint at the top corner of the device.--this is when it actually started acting up as the touch screen stopped functioning i had to keep soft resetting it and after about a day it functioned normal again and have not had a problem since.

because of all these drops and other more minor drops i did'nt describe(like dropping it from the couch) that this device has suffered at the hands of my abuse and the fact its still working pretty much 100% i will have to give dell an A++ for making such a resilent device.
this was also a refurbished model and i had no accidental coverage on it so i really feel like i lucked out alot.

and getting flash memory as opposed to a microdrive probably saved me some money as two laptops i dropped to a carpeted floor both had hard drives that died on me.

My N64 is probably the strongest/most abused device I have... someone spilled dr. pepper on it and it still worked, it dropped around 10 times from various distances to various surfaces. I've had N64 controllers thrown across the room into walls(I didn't do it) I urge Nintendo to start making other things that need to be protected.

My Motorola Q has went flying three times, omce skidding 50 feet across a parking lot, and has shown no damage.

I have never (ptui, ptui, ptui) dropped a lap top, but in the olden days I did light an external floppy drive literally on fire when I plugged it into the wrong port on an Apple II+ motherboard (for you children, an Apple II+ was like a Mac without the little pictures produced when Steve Jobs was named Wozniak). Flames were coming out of the disk slot.

I have destroyed a good number of mobile phones however, in many and varied ways. Smashed in the screen on a door knob, dropped it in front of oncoming traffic (that one was bad), ran one through a washing machine...such is life.

I was fishing at bahrain Coast. Somebody called me and my phone was ringing and so I answered the phone. Then suddenly, my fishing ROD caught something big and huge. I got excited and dropped my phone in my hand. you know what!!!! I got a BIG Fish (2KG SHARI is the Local Name) but I lost my nokia 7210 - it fell into the Sea...

Well my phone has been chucked and dropped quite a bit (Nokia 7250i) no problems at all though (paint is slowly coming off and it is a little scratched).

Yeah back in the palm pilot era I had a Tungsten E...
It served me well until it came to an untimely end the first club period of the school year. Being the stubborn idiot I am, I put the palm in my cargo pocket and went out to play ultimate frisby. Apparently its a rather rough sport because after the first few minutes i got tackled and fell to the ground directly on my palm. The pocket with the palm in it was resting against my knee and was first to hit the ground. I'd say the touch screen was a bit more than shattered. It sure hit the ground hard because my knee it hit against had a huge bruise the following day.

I dropped my old Sony P800 more times than I can even remember. Even survived a drop from about 5 feet onto a castle stone floor. Went into several different pieces, but it all patched together and it worked flawlessely.

I was in a hurry to leave to catch a flight. Someone asked me a favor, I put down my laptop in front of my car rather than next to the drivers door to assist them. I returned to the car and as I left my garage space, I felt some resistance and a slight bump. Hmm. Strange. Stopped. Climbed out. RIP. There were tire tracks on the bag, on the keyboard, and even on the broken screen.

My Zen Vision: M has a small crack (on the metal back side) from hitting the concrete floor here at work. I feared the worst, in terms of the hard drive, but it works great. As great as the day I bought it.

I've dropped my old nokia phone 3110 more times than I can remember with the battery going in one direction and the phone in the other. What killed it in the end was the on off switch breaking, leaving me missing a friends stag night! My N800 has been dropped onto the tarmac from about 1 meter, and it's fine.

Also my camera Nikon F801 took a tumble from a taxi, 1 to 2 meter fall onto concrete from a taxi. I just pick it up a few scratches on the side and it worked perfectly. My friend told me that they are indestructable, she had a similar camera.
