Hi,
I'm a longtime reader of Pocketables and decided to become a participant too. I'm a longertime user of Pocketable devices. I started with a Handspring Visor Deluxe, used (up) two successive Handspring Neos, bought a Sony Clié TJ-37 which I loved but was stolen . I replaced it with a Palm Zire 72, and then a Palm T|X (which is still the best overall Pocketable IMHO). I've used these devices for language learning, document storage, PIM, eBook readers, Media players, in my work as a network analyst, and most other possible uses for these incredibly useful devices.
I now have a Nokia N800 which I was hoping was to be the end-all super Pocketable of the 21st century, now that Palm is fading (sniff). Unfortunately, I find it plagued with typical Open Source woes. Like the Triumph TR-8 in the garage, it's fun to tinker with, a blast to drive, but not dependable enough for daily use. For that I take the Chevy, my trusty Palm T|X.
The are some promising apps on Maemo and others just on the verge that have some deal-killing flaw. But not enough of good ones to get over the critical mass of overall usefulness...
What do you think?
