A forum on something so important to me. Excellent.
But not because I like gadgets (OK so I do) but because I spend so much time out of the office that the whole UMPC is getting closer to giving me my fantasy device but so far nobody seems to be delivering it. Right now I have a full blown laptop and a Windows smart phone. Now to be fair, when out of the office the smartphone has all the applications I need on the road (Outlook for Exchange, Word and even Powerpoint) but the form factor makes it impossible for "real work". So what I need is something with the form factor of the MSI Wind but with Windows Mobile on it. This in turn would give me a device with instant on, with all the applications I need on the road with no need to an on board HDD (SSD or otherwise) just an SD card slot as the OS is embeded and because of all of this, a 6 cell battery on a windows mobile chipset should give you around 24 hours or real world usage (not just standby). So it would look like a laptop, feel like a laptop and work like a laptop. It would have a GUI looking a bit like windows, a touch screen (so it's a tablet as well) and I think would be a real winner as long as the price is right. If the Celio Redfly can be a hit (which kind of adds all of the above to your existing windows mobile device) why not just join the 2 together. And finally, this device should not try to be a phone. |
