Default MSI Wind Battery life

Hey everyone,

I know that the specs are out there, but does anyone really know how long the 3 & 6 cell models will last? Has anybody tried playing Divx videos on it to check if the battery life meets what is advertised?

Supposedly the 3cell isn't all that great, 2-3 hours, and the 6cell more like 5 hours.

I just wonder how much it'll be improved putting an SSD in there.

I don't think it'd be a huge leap in battery life going to an SSD but if you need more than 2-3 to 5~ hours of battery life... buy another battery or stop staying away from civilization.

Well, not regularly but on occasion I have to take 6 hour train rides home to visit family. There are AC outlets on Amtrak, but it'd be great to not have to worry about power.

Well at least a six cell will last "most" of the trip. Might as well not bother with a second battery if you'd be around an outlet it'd be more ideal to just take the ac adapter along for the ride.

I'm quite pleased with that 3-cell battery, less weight. Maybe later I'll buy 6-cell too when its available.

Don't forget about the Wind's overclock/underclock button mentioned here towards the bottom of page 1 and in this video at about 1 min. 14 secs. It's said to last about 7 hours on 6 cell in underclocked mode at the forums I had found this out at and a couple of the links found there.

3 cell battery is simply useless, a 6 cell will be good

Ive heard that the wind's stock batteries are pretty low quality. Maybe some denser 3rd party 6 cells would boost the life even more ?

If you use the underclock, for just surfing and doing less intense stuff, that would be ideal. Then switch to normal or overclock for cpu demanding applications. It may be a bit of a hassle, but not having to constantly search for power is more important I think.

I read somewhere that someone managed to get 5.5h out of it with wifi off, and 4h with wifi on and display at half brightness.

I'm kind of curious how long you could get the Wind to run if you put in an SSD drive, lowest brightness setting, and the 6 cell

The 6 cell battery version will be avaliable in july however the 6 cell battery alone will be avaliable in mid september.
I will buy the 3 cell version and get a third party company to make me a big battery!

Also the scorpio WD is actually a really low power consumption hdd, some high performance SSD may not show a difference at all.
