Okay, I understand how to connect wirelessly when there is a router present. I'm thinking of those times when I'm out of range of a wireless.
How difficult is it to connect via Bluetooth to a phone and go on the Internet using the phone's technology? Am I right in assuming this only works if I have Internet capability on my phone? |

Yes, you would need a data plan from your service provider.
Pocketables has a similar tutorial for what you are mentioning, the devices might be different but it still may apply to what you are asking. http://www.pocketables.net/2008/01/how-to-tether-a.html |

You can also buy a 3g dongle which are very good and nearly as fast as broadband speeds i swear by it, they are really great. E220 is a great model.

For the Nokias, theres a wizard when you first start it that asks for your phone information, and then you just go to the connection manage and tap your phone connection, very simple stuff.

With the proposed sim car slot in the Acer Aspire One, it would be like having your own cellphone in your UMPC and having the convenience of making a call/ send SMS/ or connect to a 3G network anytime anywhere.

I did it in my SONY UX... Actually, UX already has the WWAN capabilities, but i wanted to use the phone CF card i havefor WWAN on the existing unit does not work in my country. I did some painstaking job of converting my UX to CF card slot and I was succesfful.... Now i can recieve/make calls, send/receive SMS and GPRS connection is workin perfect...
