So, in trying to decide my mini notebook (Eee 901, Wind or Aspire One) I headed on over to the MSI Global website.
My reason for doing this is, as you know, the Wind will initially be available WinXP only. So I wanted to see what drivers were available. Disappointed to only see WinXP drivers at present and no Linux ones. Hopefully these will be available soon. http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...5&prod_no=1474 |

I admit I am not surprised...
The focus of the original Eees was on Linux versions until customers demanded XP. Now, the second generation mini notes are releasing XP first, Linux maybe later. It is all about what the market seems to want. Z

I think they have rushed the wind release a bit, thats possibilty why they dnt have drivers up, they messed up pre orders etc..

I think that closer to the time that the Linux version will be launched is when they'll have the Linux drivers up.

I am sure the Ubuntu community will develop drivers shortly after the Wind is available for purchase on the consumer market. I had bought a newer laptop and the drivers weren't available immediately, but it didn't take the developing community long to create the necessary code to make the features of the laptop work. Patience is a virtue?
Perhaps picking up the Windoze version with all the features available and all the drivers available would work best; then waiting for the drivers to be developed on the linux side and creating a dual-boot system? Just a suggestion... |

I mean, its realtek wireless and ethernet, Intel motherboard, the card reader is probably plug and play anyway, touchpad (again probably plug and play), audio (ditto), bluetooth, and Intel video. I'm not sure the state of bluetooth drivers in Linux (though the 'Linux version' of the Wind won't have bluetooth anyway), but everything else seems pretty standard. |
