How to put your iPhone / iPod Touch into DFU mode

I figured it you have to hold the power and home button it will take a picture keep holding it then it will eventually turn off allowing you to follow on from step 2 in the post with the 1st set of instructions.

does anyone know if there is a way for me to put my phone into DFU mode with my computer, because my lock/power button isnt working.

My iPod touch 3rd generation's touchscreen is not responding, so the first step of the dfu process can't be done because I can't turn the thing off (can't slide the red thing after holding the power key). I've read that another way of turning off the thing is by holding both buttons only until the screen goes black but if I do this when the ipod is plugged into the computer's usb port, the ipod doesn't turn off it just restarts, so I am effectively unable to turn off the ipod in order to put it in dfu mode. Any help? Im using a mac btw.

Also, haven't damaged the ipod, dropped it, wet it, etc. The touchscreen just randomly stopped working.

So obviously I can't enter the password I'm being told to enter because that image won't go away!
I've tried DFU mode a few times but it's not changing anything.

ohk first what u needa do is go to ur ipod/iphone and go thru ur setting and shut off the pass lock...then u can connect to itunes or just put it on dfu mode if u forgot the pass lock code...here how to put it on dfu mode...hold the sleep button for 3 secs and then while holding the sleep button, press and hold the home button (both and dont let go of both) after 10 secs, let go of the sleep button and continue holding the home button til just computer make a funny noise
