Last week I noticed some black spots on my screen, just above the home button. Not sure if they are spreading or changing shape. Today I see a couple more spots, near the top corners. These are the first signs of ageing on this almost two year old device.
Wondering how long this screen is going to last. I hope to make it till late October or near the end of the year. Is anybody else's screen deteriorating, how fast does it happen? Peace |

I have actually never heard of something like this (permanent dead pixels showing up after a couple of years using the device). My 2nd Streak did have 2 or 3 dead pixels, but they were there out of the box. When this one died after about two months because of the internal SD card failed, the replacement was perfect (and it still is).
Are you sure these are not just stuck pixels that you could fix? You can google up some different ways of doing this. |

True. The failure rate of pixels after a year is extremely small. That is actually a tip for people buying TVs.
Most manufacturers offer a 1 yr warranty (or the store does) and some credit cards , like Amex, will double a manufacturer's warranty for free... So basically if the TV lasts for a year, it will typically last for as long as you choose to keep it around. Therefore, MOST of the extended warranties are of limited value... unless they cover external factors like power surges, fire/water, etc.

A Google search says black pixels are dead. Another link bought me to your(?) Earlier post that I had already searched for.
I just hope I can get closer to the end of the year, somewhere around 100 days shouldn't be too much of a problem. Thanks for the tip. Google search isn't always my first thought. Peace |

My dead pixels spread, and receded. Now only the newest dead pixels are still dead. Hoping they come back too. And that no new ones appear.

Most of the Dead Pixels are gone.
I have one blob still in a bottom corner. I still don't know why they came or went. I massaged the areas, but I don't know if that did anything. Peace |

All of the "Dead Pixels " are gone!
It took just over 2 months for the whole cycle, from dicovery to gone. Still Loving my Streak 5, the 7 not so much. Just don't need the 7", and with the SNote 2 at 5.5", If I purchase it, I would not need a tablet. I use the 5" much more. Easier to hold, a better display and battery. Peace |

I am using the Dell Streak 5.
While it is true that the pixels are not exactly dead, as they came back on, I had no other term to describe my problem. I massaged the screen, and basicly waited to see what happened. I was afraid the whole sceen would black out before I replace this 2+ yrs old device. As of today, all pixels appear to be working. Peace |

They weren't dead pixels. Just stuck. One possible reason is a build-up of static electricity at the pixel level. Playing fast motion video can fix it. Or, in this case, it was probably regular use that eventually cleared them up.
What phone is grabbing your attention these days, JR? I'm thinking about upgrading also, to the LG Optimus G. I was tempted by the Note, but the PenTile display and cheap feeling plastic put me off. Lately I've been tempted by the S3, One X, and especially the Note 2. That 5.5" display is VERY tempting! I think I can live with dropping down to 4.7" and getting a far more pocketable device. The quad-core CPU is a bit of overkill with today's apps, but might enable me to keep using it for 2+ years again. If I were at all creative, the S Pen would probably swing me to the Note 2, but I think the OG's biz-oriented apps will probably be far more useful for me. |

I am currently looking at the Note 2. I am also interested in checking out a 5"+ Windows phone device too if they have one, soon.
HTC has a 5" they are not releasing in the USA yet. Looks to have potential. I don't need to pocket my device, I made a holster for the DS5 in it's PDAir case, And can do it again. My need for a strict productivity device seems to have ended. Though in the last two months I have been trying to reduce my PC tasks, and move them to my phone, like paying bills and managing my bank account. I use my kid's Win7 laptop for burning CDs. Don't need a device for work, I am a machine tech. My phone is really my only toy. It runs music over Bluetooth at work, and is an internet portal the rest of the time. I rarely play games anymore. I want a large screen, but rarely use my DS7 Tablet. Can't take it with me, and it is nothing special. I love this DS5, wish Dell stayed in the game. It is solid, and perfect after more than 2 years, more than I can say for the 2 HTC WinMo devices I still have. Hope you enjoy whatever device you choose, there are certainly plenty of choices. Peace |
