Default Ubuntu MID Edition 8.04 anyone?

Has anyone installed this on their U810 yet?

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag..._mid_804&num=1

Here is the download link:

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/mobile/releases/hardy/

It is Ubuntu that is rebuilt to be finger-friendly for the small screens of MIDs. It supports the McCaslin (U810) chipset and the Menlow (Intel Atom) chipset that is starting to come out.

Looks very interesting, I may give it a try in the next few days...would be cool to dual-boot with Vista, have the best of both worlds.

Could a quadruple-boot be in the U810's future?

I would be happy with just Vista and the Ubuntu MID version.

Go ahead and be the guinea pig, techno Let us know how it works before I decide to start redoing my machine...

Ubuntu MIS is almost like the Origami Experience 2. As of now, there is no WUBI install for UBUNTU Mobile but i found out it can be installed on an existing UBUNTU OS. I have that and I am just trying to figure out how to do it. I will update you all!!!

Cool, I'll be waiting to see how it turns out! I thought it was a whole OS that had an installer. So it is just like a different desktop app that goes on top of the regular Ubuntu?

I think I'm more interested in how it functions on netbooks, not so much touch screens. This seems to be a better alternative than the tabbed version of "UBUNTU REMIX".

Haha I prefer this solution myself:

A Vista PC running a Linux, OS X (Tiger, couldn't get Leopard to work), and XP virtual machine, all at the same time.

I've been trying to get this to work by installing it from a flash drive, but everytime at start up it just sits there at a black screen with a blinking "_" symbol. It won't let me get into the install. I've tried UNetbootin, dd, and a simple restore of the drive with the image in OS X, and all gave the same results. Does anybody know why, or has anybody been successful yet?

Also, does anyone have a preference between this and netbook remix?

So after a lot of testing I have found the solution (for me atleast). You cannot use dd (atleast in windows) or UNetbooin to install this image to a flashdrive. You have to use an application called usb-imagewriter for linux. If you don't have a linux computer at hand, you'll have to go through the process that I had to do:
  1. Install regular ubuntu onto your u810 however you please (whether external disk drive or USB). I used windows' UNetbootin to make a bootable flash drive.
  2. Once installed, download usb-imagewriter from here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MobileTeam/M...o/ImageWriting and of course your copy of Ubuntu MID.
  3. Next follow the simple process of the application to create your bootable drive.
also.. you cannot use a live cd to do this, it must be installed so you can install the application (unless you somehow know how to do so with a live cd)!

I hope I was able to help anyone who faced the same problem as me! I'll post a review soon if anyone one wants!
