I have been reading forums and reviews for the MSI Wind but can't seem to find any references to how well the MSI Wind handles high-def video playback...
I'm not sure if anyone here has one to test it with but, HD video playback performance is a big deal for me. Looking to know if 720p & 1080i mpg/avi files work stutter free on the Wind. Also another demanding video program Slingplayer... I have used a Q1UP with the 1.33ghz core solo, and it plays hd video as smooth as silk, it never stutters ever... on my previous unit the Q1U-V w/ the slow A110 800mhz cpu there was plenty of stutter and poor performance with slingplayer. If anyone has some info on this I would appreciate it thanks. |

You probably will be fine with 720p AVI files (assuming the codec is xvid?) 1080i I'd imagine there won't be enough horsepower for the deinterlacing. The jury's still out on MPEG2 files. The video chip might even support MPEG2 acceleration since that's not all that new a feature, but nobody knows for now. |

Yeah you'll have to wait a few weeks to see more benchmarks for that type of thing. I don't think anyone has done a test like that using the overclock mode either have they?

Nope, as far as I know, Anandtech is the only one that even mentions HD video and thats technically not even a Wind review but an eee Box review.

Yeah and the EEE box are the same specs as the Wind hmmmm I guess we won't know until it gets released and someone on a forum or something does a test in overclock mode. Just hoping that 300mhz jump is enough to smooth playback out. It was a nice jump for the 3DMark 03 score I saw.

Someone on msiwind.net actually has wind from shanghai, maybe he will post his HD experiences. I think 720 would work not 1080.

Yeah but from what I heard he can't PUT anything on the Wind, he can only use what's already on the system so I doubt he can transfer anything to it unfortunately.

That's even more interesting then, more than likely it's the Wind. Overclocking it to 1.9ghz is about a 19% increase in speed compared to the standard 1.6ghz. It sounds promising, someone needs to hurry and test that out.

Reviewers who got one early might not be allowed to test that, or it might not have been working yet (I know someone on the MSIwind.net forums said his gave a BSOD from that button).

Oh so we won't know anyway until it actually gets released shortly after June is over
A ~20% increase is quite a nice jump, I have high hopes at least for 720p stuff. Not too long of a wait... just need someone to do it once they get it. Whoever win's the Wind here I'll request they test that out.

the limiting factor may be the downclocked 950, its downclockd to 133mhz which is very bad.

![]() It clearly says at least in their sample that its running at 400MHz. |

Yes it was 400mhz orginally does it have pictures supporting it? 400mhz is the basic 950 chipset default so maybe they have just assumed?
